Earth’ stratosphere consists of the ozone layer. The ozone layer protects the earth by absorbing ultra violet radiations. Most popular and commonly used CFC refrigerants contain chlorine which reacts with ozone and leads to the depletion of the ozone layer. The depletion of ozone layer will allow ultra violet radiations to reach the earth causing infinite problems to living organisms.

HOW TO AVOID SKIN CANCER & EYE CATARACT ?
Large doses of ultra violet radiations cause skin cancer, eye cataract and damage to crops through seasonal variation. The need to protect the earth has forced all countries to ban and phase out the use of CFC’s. This was formally ratified in the form of Montreal Protocol, during 1989. As per Montreal Protocol, developed countries have already eliminated CFC use by December- 1995 and are using ozone friendly refrigerants as alternative to CFC-12.
    In small refrigeration appliances CFC-12 generally had been the most obvious choice. After extensive evaluation for ozone friendly refrigerant HCFC-R134A has been identified as the most prominent alternative to CFC-12 having similar properties.

BAN ON R-12 AND R-22 BASED COMPRESSORS ?
India being a signatory to the Montreal Protocol, has to adopt all measures to phase out usage of  CFC’s completely by 2010. By year 2010 no new R-12 and R-22 based compressors will be manufactured and 100% conversion of CFC based compressors to other eco friendly compressors has to be made by then.

BRIGHT ANNEALED ECO-FRIENDLY COPPER TUBES
MANDEV’S SECOND (NEW) PLANT AT UMBERGAON, GUJARAT, STARTED IN 2008, HAS THE MOST ADVANCED INERT ATMOSPHERIC VACUUM TYPE BRIGHT ANNEALING FURNACE FOR MANUFACTURING ECO-FRIENDLY COPPER TUBES.

The furnace has enabled to achieve a new level of cleanliness and superior quality in the manufacture of copper tubes for the air-conditioning and refrigeration industry. This system is the first of its kind for copper tube production in India.

The advanced furnace specializes in the annealing of CFC free Gas Compatiable copper tubes, with almost nil residue i.e. 0.003 gm/sq mtr for the air - conditioning and refrigeration application. It has higher capacity of annealing pipes upto 10 feet long.

The addition of the furnace, to the manufacturing infrastructure, was made in order to meet both efficiency and quality demands of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment manufacturers to facilitate them in complying with the Montreal Protocol. The performance of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems with CFC-free or HCFC refrigerants can be jeopardized even by the minutest amounts of contaminants within the tubing.

The advanced furnace eliminates this problem with a patented, continuous purging system that removes virtually all residual gases, lubricants and oxidants both internally and externally. This precludes the need for any special cleaning before the tube is fabricated into the air-conditioning and refrigeration system.

The totally enclosed convection design assures temper uniformity by providing precise temperature control and unmatched evenness of heating. This results in complete, consistent temper throughout the coil, which can be maintained to exact customer specifications throughout each production run.

The advanced furnace is also specially designed and equipped to maintain the pancake coil's shape as it is annealed, reducing any coil distortion. This feature reduces the ‘tangling’ effect that can occur when unwinding pancake coils at the customer's plant.

MANDEV TUBES also has plans to add an automated handling and specially designed packaging system that will minimize handling stress and potential damage to the tube prior to dispatch and in transit to the end user.
